Alleviating the Financial Stress Associated with Dental Care

Dental insurance is one of the best investments you can make when looking to take better care of your oral and overall health. While each plan and company are different, the same goal of helping you lower your out-of-pocket costs remains the same. At Oakton Dentistry by Design, our team is here to alleviate the financial stress commonly associated with dental care, which is why we’re in-network with various PPO plans. To find out how we can help you save on your next visit, call our office today.

How Dental Insurance Works

There are a few basic concepts you must understand when it comes to dental insurance:

  1. You must pay the agreed-upon monthly premium to receive access to your available benefits.
  2. You will have a deductible you need to meet as well as an annual maximum, which is the total amount your insurance company will agree to pay in a single year.
  3. Your benefits will likely expire at the end of the year, so it’s best to use them while you still have the chance.
  4. Preventive dentistry is the focal point of dental insurance and is usually covered at 80-100% because it minimizes the chances of needing costlier care in the future.
  5. Minor and major restorative services are usually covered between 50-80% depending on the type of treatment required.
  6. Cosmetic dentistry is usually not covered by dental insurance because it is considered an “elective” form of treatment.

What is the Difference Between Dental and Medical Insurance?

It’s natural to think that dental and medical insurance should be the same; however, they are not. Instead, medical focuses on reactionary care (i.e., treating a broken arm), while dental promotes preventive care. Addressing issues early on and stopping them before they start (i.e., cavities, infection, gum disease, etc.) lowers the risk of more serious oral health issues down the road.

In-Network vs. Out-of-Network

As you look at the various dental insurance plans that are available, you’ll find there are two columns you must compare – in-network and out-of-network. Generally, if you want to save more, choosing someone who is in-network with your dental insurance company is best; however, this I not mandatory, as many offices are happy to welcome various insurance plans and file necessary claims on your behalf.

In-Network Coverage

At Oakton Dentistry by Design, we are pleased to be in-network with the following companies:

Our partnership and agreement with these companies allow us to keep our fees low so that you pay less when receiving preventive and restorative dental care.

Out of Network

If you find out that we are not in-network with your dental insurance plan, do not worry. Our caring and compassionate team is here to review your benefits, file any claims and paperwork, and help you get the maximum reimbursement so that you can keep more money in your pocket while working toward a healthier smile.
