In-Practice Teeth Whitening
While store bought tooth whitening products promise dramatic results, they are typically unable to deliver on their promises. Our team is able to offer more predictable smile brightening solutions with professional in-office and at-home teeth whitening. In-office whitening is a fast, effective way to brighten smiles up to ten shades in about an hour making it the ideal option for patients who need fast results. We protect soft tissue and apply a coat of whitening gel to teeth. At fifteen minute intervals, we check results, and reapply as necessary.

At-Home Tooth Whitening
Unlike store bought at-home whitening kits that use an ineffectively low dose of active whitening agents and are unable to seal out neutralizing saliva, our professional at-home whitening kits combine professional-grade whitening gel with custom application trays to ensure predictable results up to ten shades brighter over the course of two weeks of consistent treatment. Patients who prefer more gradual results, have sensitive teeth, or want to touch up in-office whitening may prefer an at-home whitening kit.

Porcelain Veneers
One of the most popular cosmetic dentistry solutions available, porcelain veneers conceal any number of smile flaws including chips, cracks, and stains transforming smiles quickly and comfortably. Veneers are thin sheaths of dental grade porcelain that are affixed to the fronts of teeth perfecting smiles. The process is simple, but typically requires two visits to complete. A small amount of tooth enamel is removed to allow the veneer to blend seamlessly into the natural smile line. Then, a series of dental impressions are captured that will be used by our dental lab to craft a custom veneer. We place a temporary veneer, and patients return to exchange the temporary for the permanent solution.
Cosmetic Dentistry FAQs
Cosmetic dentistry can give you a smile to be proud of, but it's a big investment. Your cosmetic dentist at Oakton Dentistry by Design will explain everything during your consultation and help you make the best decisions for your goals. You can also contact our office if you have concerns or take a look below for the answers to the most frequently asked questions.
Is Cosmetic Dentistry Expensive?
It's a common misbelief that cosmetic dentistry is too expensive for the average person, but you don't have to be rich to enhance your smile. There are several solutions to address various aesthetic flaws, which means there's a treatment to fit your budget. Our office also provides many financial solutions to keep a picture-perfect smile affordable, like monthly payments through CareCredit. Based on your credit approval, you can benefit from financing to pay any out-of-pocket expenses.
Does Cosmetic Dentistry Hurt?
Your comfort is always our top priority. Our office uses the latest techniques and technology. Your cosmetic dentist may use a numbing medication based on your treatment plan. You might feel some pressure or unusual sensations, but you won't have any outright pain. However, some procedures can make your mouth a little sore after any numbing medications wear off. You can manage your discomfort with an OTC pain reliever and eating soft foods. Your dentist will review any aftercare instructions before you go home.
Can I Use My Dental Insurance for Cosmetic Dentistry?
It's not common for dental insurance to pay for elective services, but there are some exceptions. Your benefits may cover your consultation or diagnostic services. You must have healthy teeth and gums before any elective treatment. Therefore, your insurance may cover some of the expenses for any prep work, like a dental cleaning or tooth filling. If a cosmetic procedure is medically necessary, your insurance can pay 50% to 80% of the expenses after meeting your annual deductible. This can be the case when fixing a chipped tooth or treating a cavity. A member of our office will work on your behalf with your dental insurance to maximize your coverage.
How Long Does Cosmetic Dentistry Last?
Every procedure has a different life expectancy and many things will influence the duration of your results. No matter the procedure, you can get the most from your new smile with good oral hygiene. Brush your teeth after every meal and floss daily. Eat nutritious foods and limit sugars and starches. Avoid any hard or chewy foods. Break any habits that can damage your teeth, like chewing on your fingernails. Don't forget to wear an athletic mouthguard if you play sports. Schedule a cleaning and checkup with our office every 6 months to ensure your dazzling smile lasts for years.
